I got nothing...

I know I've been slacking on the blog, but hey, life goes on. So here are some pictures to hold you over until I feel like typing. Enjoy.

Just some happennigs around the house

It's a lot more than it looks, especially when you don't have a washer and dryer. It took 6 trips to the car. Then, with 2 kids, we went to the laundry mat. However, the great thing about the laundry mat is that it only took 2 hours, instead of 2 days in our apartment complex. After moving the laundry 3 times, to the car, to the laundry mat and back to the car, being 6 trips each, I just left it in the car for Matthew to bring in.

I went to vacuum, and Kanani was looking unsure. So Aleah sat in her chair and held Kanani and told her that it was okay while they watched me vacuum.

This last weekend I was able to hang out with one of my best friends from grade school. We were best friends all through seventh grade. Then one day she had to up and move from San Diego to Michigan. We had kept in contact here and there over the years and I saw her once in 9th grade and the last time I had talked to her, before this last year, was in 2002. But this last year she was able to find me through my brother and the good ol' internet. Anyways she came out to Philly for an Honor Society convention and we got to hang out for a couple days. We did some things down town and just got to catch up on life. It was a really good time and it's nice to know that you can have such good friends even if you haven't seen them for 12 years.

Beautiful blue eyes, Beautiful brown eyes

A lot of people ask us where Aleah gets her blue eyes because neither Matthew or I have blue eyes. Matthew's dad has blue eyes and my mom has hazel, so the gene is in the somewhere. Here's a little more explanation...from geneticists.

Simple explanation:

Brown, green and blue eye color comes from a pigment called melanin. Brown eyes have a lot of melanin in the iris, green eyes have less, and blue eyes have little or no pigment. “Originally, we all had brown eyes”, said Professor Eiberg from the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine. “But a genetic mutation affecting the OCA2 gene in our chromosomes resulted in the creation of a “switch”, which literally “turned off” the ability to produce brown eyes”. The OCA2 gene codes for the so-called P protein, which is involved in the production of melanin, the pigment that gives colour to our hair, eyes and skin. The “switch”, which is located in the gene adjacent to OCA2 does not, however, turn off the gene entirely, but rather limits its action to reducing the production of melanin in the iris – effectively “diluting” brown eyes to blue. The switch’s effect on OCA2 is very specific therefore. If the OCA2 gene had been completely destroyed or turned off, human beings would be without melanin in their hair, eyes or skin colour – a condition known as albinism.
Variation in the colour of the eyes from brown to green can all be explained by the amount of melanin in the iris, but blue-eyed individuals only have a small degree of variation in the amount of melanin in their eyes. “From this we can conclude that all blue-eyed individuals are linked to the same ancestor,” says Professor Eiberg. “They have all inherited the same switch at exactly the same spot in their DNA.” Brown-eyed individuals, by contrast, have considerable individual variation in the area of their DNA that controls melanin production.

Either way, we love our girls' eyes! They're beautiful!!!

I can be anything......today, I'm a ballarina!

One of my favorite things as a mom is to look at my children and see their potential and see that they really can be anything they want. Sometimes children seem fearless when it comes to trying new things because they don't have that disappointment and fear of failure yet. Most little children don't have the pressure and fear of what happens if they don't succeed. So I love just watching my kids and thinking, they really can do ANYTHING! They have so much talent to develop. Today Aleah was a Ballarina.

We dressed Aleah in her B-ball outfit in honor of March Madness. Kanani, she's just cute, we don't have a basketball outfit for her, or she would be wearing it too. By the way, did anyone see that Villanova game? Like I said before, anything can happen!
